Rats and Other Rodents

Mice and rats can enter a building along pipe lines, electrical lines, through vents or preexisting holes and sometimes chew their way into your home. A combination of food supply and secure shelter is an invitation for rats and mice to colonize your property.

Norway rats are the most abundant in Maryland thriving in neighborhoods, stores, and farms. Their reproductive cycle is rapid, a female can come into heat every 4 to 5 days and they may mate within a day after a litter is born. The average female rat has 4 to 6 litters per year weaning about 20 to 30 offspring. If an invader is left to roam your property it can quickly become a total infestation and a health problem for humans and pets.

Rats have an excellent highly developed sense of taste and smell, they can detect contaminants in their food which may lead to bait box and poison rejection.
