How to React if You See a Snake
If you come across a snake in your yard, don’t panic. The snake is probably just as startled as you are. If it’s your first encounter with this type of snake at this location, it’s best to just walk in the opposite direction and let snake do the same.
Just because you saw a snake in your yard doesn’t mean you have a snake problem. It’s likely that your snake was just a visitor going about its day. However, if you keep seeing what looks like the same type of snake in the same area, it could be a sign that there is a snake den nearby. In this case, you are welcome to call Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control, so that we can investigate further.
Help, there is a poisonous snake in my yard!
We get a lot of calls about “poisonous” snakes in Columbia. While some of these calls are valid, many people get this wrong. And we don’t blame you, different snake species do look alike. Thankfully, there are only two venomous snake species in Maryland: northern copperhead and timber rattlesnake. If you do come across any of them, slowly back off and get far away. While their poison is not deadly, they can still leave a nasty bite and result in a trip to ER. Contact us if you find a venomous snake on your property—our trained technicians can humanely capture it and relocate far from your home.
