Easton in Talbot County Maryland is a quaint historic all American town filled with beautiful historic homes and shops that attract thousands of tourist throughout the summer. Unfortunately, Easton’s humid subtropical climate during the summer also attracts tens of thousands of bats. The many bodies of water like ponds, rivers, and creeks throughout Easton along with the hot, humid climate presents the perfect breeding grounds for mosquitos which is a favorite food of bats. To top it all off the beautiful historic homes throughout Easton provide the perfect roosting haven for bats.
Many of the older historic homes and shops in Easton have beautiful metal roofs but unfortunately, metal roofs have many gaps that are 1/4” inch or larger which easily allows bats to enter the attic space. Many of Easton’s homes also have dormer soffits that add a wonderful architectural element to home but over time as a home settles gaps are created and bats enter.
Bat removal companies in Easton have been overwhelmed with calls from homeowners in need of bat eviction services and bat dropping cleanup services. Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control has a team of bat experts in Easton on a daily basis from April till November evicting bats from attics, sealing rooflines to prevent bats from re-entering, and removing bats that have found their way into the living space of a home. Most of the homes have minor bat-related issues however Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control encounters larger more involved projects on occasion.
One such bat project off of Easton Parkway 21601 near Papermill Pond was so involved it required the removal of the ceiling and all the plaster walls in a finished attic bedroom. This home had been in the same family for three generations and the homeowners could recall having bats in the attic for decades but did not think it was a problem until they could no longer bear the odor from the bat urine and droppings that now permeated throughout the entire house. The bat expert from Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control realized that this home was going to be a larger project when the homeowners explained how pungent the odor was and that they would watch over 80 bats every evening flying out of a dormer soffit and out of a corner at the roof’s apex. After the bat expert from Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control conducted an inspection of the home he discovered that there was about a ton of bat droppings above the ceiling and behind the walls of the finished attic.
Due to the health hazards involved with a fungal spore that forms in large quantities of bat droppings that causes histoplasmosis the homeowner had to temporarily move out of the home while Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control was performing the extensive removal and cleanup of the bat droppings. The only way Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control could remove all of the bat droppings (guano) was by ripping out all of the plaster walls and the ceiling. Once the walls and ceiling were ripped out they used a high powered industrial vacuum to suck up all of the droppings. The technicians had to bust up the bat droppings with hammers because the bat urine caused the bat droppings to fuse together in large clumps.
Most homeowners don’t know how to get rid of bats or how to stop bats from getting into an attic and need a bat expert to get involved. If you suspect that you have bats don’t wait to get help. The longer period of time that bats roost in your attic or walls the more bat droppings will accumulate and eventually a small inexpensive problem will become a very big expensive problem. Call Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control at 866.784.8058 for expert guidance right away if you suspect that bats are roosting in your attic.
